How to Share Your Faith Story
A simple guide for writing a testimony: what God has done in your life, told honestly and briefly.
Saint Peter asks Christians to be ready to explain the hope that is in them, with gentleness and respect (1 Peter 3:15). A testimony is exactly that: your own account of how God has been at work in your life.
Three parts of a good testimony
- Before: where you were — a struggle, a question, a time of distance from God.
- The turning point: a person, a prayer, a sacrament or a moment when something changed.
- Now: what is different, and what you are still learning.
Keep it true and simple
You do not need dramatic events. Faithful love in an ordinary family, a recovery, a reconciliation or a slow return to Sunday Mass are all signs of grace. Write as you would speak to a friend, in 300 to 600 words. Protect the privacy of others: change or leave out names unless they agree.

For reflection
- When did I first feel that God was close to me?
- Who helped me to believe?
